Briscoe Motor Corporation was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Benjamin Briscoe previously ran Maxwell Motor Company , Flint Automobile Company , Briscoe Frères and Argo Motor Company . In 1914 he founded the new company in Jackson , Detroit . He started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Briscoe . The first vehicle was presented at the New York Automobile Show in January 1914 . Benjamin Briscoe handed over the presidency to Clarence A. Earl in March 1921 and retired entirely from the company in October 1921. In the same year the company was dissolved. A total of over 56,000 vehicles were built.

Earl founded Earl Motors in 1922 .

From 1914 to 1915 only the Model B was in the range. A four-cylinder engine with an L-head developed 33 hp . The wheelbase was 272 cm. There was a choice of five-seat touring cars and three-seat roadsters .

The model 4-38 from 1916 had a wheelbase longer to 290 cm compared to the previous model, while the engine remained the same.

Model 8-38 was new in 1916 . Its eight-cylinder engine developed 35 hp. The wheelbase and superstructures were the same. Customers had the opportunity to buy the four-cylinder model and later have it converted to an eight-cylinder engine.

In 1917 the Model B 4-24 replaced all previous models. It had an air-cooled four-cylinder engine with 24 hp. The chassis had a 267 cm wheelbase in the first year, 264 cm wheelbase in 1918 and 1919 and 262 cm wheelbase in 1920. In 1917 and 1918 there were five-seat touring cars, four-seat roadsters, two-seat runabouts , Coachaire (probably Coach ) and a light commercial vehicle. In 1919 the Runabout and the Coachaire were discontinued , while the Roadster was only a two-seater. In 1920, a six-seater touring car, two-seater runabout, five-seater sedan and two-seater coupé were available.

The last model was the Model 4-34 in 1921 . It had a four-cylinder engine with 35 hp and a wheelbase of 277 cm. Five-seat touring cars, two-seat roadsters, three-seat coupes and five-seat sedans are named.
