Sellers Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in February 1909 in Hutchinson , Kansas . The predecessor company is the St. Joe Motor Car Company from Elkhart , Indiana , which in turn followed the Shoemaker Automobile Company from Freeport , Illinois . OG Sellers and Harry Shoemaker were involved in all three companies. Shoemaker was the designer and also responsible for the plant as superintendent. At the end of May 1909, the prototypes were ready. Series production of automobiles began in July 1909. The brand name was Sellers .

In the same year, two vehicles took part in the Kansas-Colorado Endurance Run , a long-distance drive from Kansas to Colorado . One vehicle achieved a perfect result, the other reached the highest speed.

Around three vehicles were built per week. The number was too few to cover the cost.

In June 1912 the company was taken over by the Central States Engineering Company , which manufactured couplings . Guy C. Rexroad bought the plant, including some finished vehicles that he sold. He also took over some parts from which he assembled other vehicles. After the sale, he limited himself to repairing the vehicles.
