Eureka Company , previously the Eureka Manufacturing Company , was an American company.

Company history

Cadillac-based Eureka ambulance / hearse from 1961

MA Bunn, Alexander McCloy, John M. Galt, Thomas A. Galt, and George S. Tracy founded the Eureka Manufacturing Company in 1871 . The seat was in Rock Falls , Illinois . John Galt was President and Treasurer, Bunn Vice President, McCloy Manager, and John G. Crawford Secretary. They first made school furniture. In 1872 about 50 to 50 people were employed. After a few years, Thomas Galt and Tracy took over the management of the company and renamed it the Eureka Company . After Tracy's death, Thomas Galt was sole director. This also applied to the year 1896. At this time, carriages , furniture and washing machines were built . There were also pfergezogene hearses and ambulances . With the start of the engine such vehicles built on chassis of Cadillac .

The company manufactured its own automobiles between 1908 and 1909. The brand name was Eureka . The production number remained low. After that hearse and ambulance were again the most important product. Orders for the United States Army were carried out during both World War I and World War II .

In 1964 the company was dissolved.

There was no connection to the other US manufacturers of car brand Eureka : Eureka Automobile Agency , Eureka Motor Car Company , Eureka Motor Car Manufacturing Company and Eureka Engine Company buggy .

Passenger cars

The vehicles were high wheelers . The front wheels were 40 inches tall and the rear 42 inches. A two-cylinder engine with 15 hp power drove the rear axle via a planetary gear and a chain. The chassis initially had a 191 cm wheelbase , which was increased to 234 cm in the second year of production. One illustration shows an open two-seater. Was steered with a steering wheel .
