Ranger Automobile Company , previously Ranger Motor Works , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Ranger Motor Works was founded in Chicago , Illinois in 1907 . The production of automobiles began, which were marketed as rangers .

In the summer of 1909, Oscar F. Schmidt carried out a reorganization. The new company name was Ranger Automobile Company . In the summer of 1910 the move to a larger factory was announced, although it remains unclear whether it actually took place. Bankruptcy began in November 1910 .

There was no association with the Southern Motor Manufacturing Association , which used the same brand name a few years later.

The first model was a high wheeler . The front wheels were 40 inches high and the rear 44 inches. An air-cooled two-cylinder engine was mounted under the seat and drove the rear axle via two chains. 104.775 mm bore and 101.66 mm stroke resulted in 1752 cm³ displacement and 12 hp . The chassis had a 201 cm wheelbase . The structure is described as a buggy-type runabout . The original price was 395 US dollars .

This was followed in 1909 by a lower vehicle with 28-inch pneumatic tires . A slightly reduced bore of 103.1875 mm resulted in a new displacement of 1699 cm³. The engine power remained the same.
