Lion Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Adrian , Michigan , in September 1909 . Austin E. Morey was president. Henry Bowen and Fred Postal were also involved. They started producing automobiles in 1910. The brand name was Lion .

On June 2, 1912, a fire destroyed the factory and 150 vehicles. The damage amounted to 350,000 US dollars . The insurance amount of $ 180,000 was not enough. In mid-October 1912 it went bankrupt . There was also a breach of contract lawsuit by Blomstrom Manufacturing Company .

Initially there was a contract with Blomstrom to use their motor. A vehicle was not created with it.

The only production model was the Forty . It had a four-cylinder engine with 40 hp . The chassis initially had a 284 cm wheelbase . In 1912 there was the Model A version as a runabout and touring car .

In 1911, Model A was a five-seat touring car, Model B was a four-seat touring car, Model C was a two-seat runabout, and Model D was a five-seat touring car with front doors.

In 1912 the wheelbase was extended to 295 cm. Model K was a touring car with five seats and Model L was a roadster with two seats.

The Thirty had a smaller four-cylinder engine with 30 hp. The only prototype was destroyed in the fire. It was intended for the 1913 model year . The original price should be $ 890. By comparison, the Forty cost $ 1,600 in 1912.
