description

The company was founded by the Francis A. Woods brothers and manufactured automobiles from 1913 to 1916 . One source gives exactly July 8, 1913 as the date of foundation. Woods designed one of the first American cycle cars in 1910, the Woods Mobilette No. 1 . 18 months later was Woods Mobilette No. 2 , both prototypes that were powered by an inline four-cylinder engine with 12 bhp (8.8 kW). A cylinder bore of 68.2625 mm and a piston stroke of 74.6125 mm resulted in a displacement of 1092 cm³ . The engine capacity limit of 1100 cm³ for Cyclecars was just adhered to.

1913 arose Woods Mobilette No. 3 and No. 4 , Woods' first mass-produced car. The cars were equipped with a water-cooled four-cylinder engine that also produced 12 bhp (8.8 kW). Here 63.5 mm bore and 101.6 mm stroke resulted in a displacement of 1287 cm³. They had a spur gear and a cardan shaft to the rear axle. The wheelbase was 2591 mm and a two-seater roadster in tandem was available as a body. In August 1914, 1000 pieces were produced per month. At the end of 1915, production was stopped in favor of Woods Mobilette No. 5 set.

In 1916 Woods Mobilette No. 5 . The wheelbase had grown to 2642 mm and there was a fixed roof. Electric lighting and an electric starter were offered on request.

The retail price for all Woods Mobilette was US $ 380. The production figures had been falling steadily since 1914, and in late 1916 the Woods Mobilette Company ceased operations. The models announced for 1917 no longer went into production.
