Pioneer Car Company , previously WRC Auto Works , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

W. Roy Roberts and Edward Wright founded the WRC Auto Works in 1907 . The seat was initially in El Reno , Oklahoma . They started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Pioneer . By spring 1909, 22 vehicles had been built. At that time, the partners renamed the company Pioneer Car Company . The demand exceeded the production capacities, so a move to a larger plant seemed sensible. Other places, notably Wichita , Kansas , made offers that were initially turned down. In 1909, Roberts sold 50 vehicles at an auto show in Wichita. In December 1909, the city of El Reno offered 10,000 US dollars if the company would remain in the city. In late 1910, the company moved to Oklahoma City anyway . That town had offered $ 15,000 and a factory site.

In February 1912, everything was sold to the Tulsa Automobile & Manufacturing Company .

There were other American passenger cars of the Pioneer brand: Pioneer (1896), Pioneer (1914) and Pioneer (1959).

vehicles

From 1907 to 1909 there was only one model. It was called Model A and was a high wheeler . A two-cylinder engine with 20 hp power drove the rear axle via a planetary gear and a cardan shaft . The chassis had a wheelbase of 231 cm . The only structure was a roadster .

In 1910 this model remained unchanged. Model B was new . It had a four-cylinder engine with 30 hp. The wheelbase was 267 cm. The vehicles were bodied as Surrey .

From 1911 to 1912, was only the Model B . The body was now a touring car with front doors.

Touring trips

One vehicle took part in the journey from Oklahoma City to Kansas City in 1909, making it the only one made in the state of Oklahoma. The race was good for seven days, second behind a Mitchell . On the eighth day, a defect in the engine caused the failure.
