Colonial Electric Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Mark W. Allen, Otto F. Bartlett, LC Moore, AD Stansell, William E. Storms, Albert Webb, and Fred C. Willis founded the company in September 1911. Its headquarters were in Detroit , Michigan . They started producing automobiles in 1912. The brand name was Colonial . The competition was fierce, especially from the Detroit Electric Car Company from the same city. In June 1912 an automobile magazine reported a small local sales success. Production ended later in the year. There were rumors that General Motors wanted to buy out the company, but these were not confirmed.

Storms later ran the Storms Electric Car Company .

There was no association with the other manufacturers of Colonial vehicles : Colonial Automobile Company , Colonial Motors Corporation, and Colonial Carriage Company .

Only electric cars were on offer . The maximum speed was specified with 40 km / h and the range with 120 km. The chassis had a wheelbase of 236 cm . The structure as a brougham offered space for five people. A three-seater coupe remained a prototype .
