Iroquois Motor Car Company , formerly Leggett Carriage Company and JS Leggett Manufacturing Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles and bodywork .

Company history

JS Leggett founded the Leggett Carriage Company in Syracuse , New York , in 1900 . At first he made car bodies. In February 1902 he carried out a reorganization. The new company name was JS Leggett Manufacturing Company . Now automobiles came into being. The brand name was Iroquois . After ten months he was bankrupt . A mechanic was still making individual vehicles in 1904.

By December 1904, Leggett had found new donors. He founded the successor company Iroquois Motor Car Company . The seat was now in Seneca Falls . The National Yeast Company used to work at the plant. In February 1907 the end followed.

Plans for an Iroquois Motor Vehicle Company in Syracuse could no longer be implemented.

vehicles

All vehicles had four-cylinder engines . A model has survived for the period from 1903 to 1905. The engine developed 15 hp . Superstructures were runabout and tonneau .

In 1905 the engine output rose to 20 hp. One version had a shorter wheelbase of 229 cm and was bodied as a tonneau with a rear door. Another version had a chassis with a 254 cm wheelbase and was a tonneau with side access.

In 1906 the latter model was as Type D continued. The engine output was now given as 25/30 hp. The open touring car offered space for five people. The Type E had a 40 hp engine, the same wheelbase and a seven-seater touring car body.

In 1907 the type C was the entry-level model. The engine was specified with 25/30 hp. The wheelbase was 264 cm. The touring car had five seats. Top model was Type D . Its engine was specified with 35/40 hp. The wheelbase measured 274 cm. The structure was a seven-seater touring car.
