Lewis Motor Vehicle Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
George W. Lewis from Chicago in Illinois had built an automobile as early as 1894, with which he took part in the Chicago Times-Herald Contest in 1895 . There he won an award for his friction gear . He then produced gasoline engines that he offered to other automobile manufacturers. They were single-cylinder engines with an output of 2 to 5 hp . One of them powered the Brown Touring Cart .
It was not until 1899 that Lewis founded the new vehicle production company. The seat was in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . The production of automobiles ran from 1899 to 1900. The brand name was Lewis . In total, only a few vehicles were built.
There were no affiliations with the Lewis Cycle Company and the LPC Motor Company , which later used the same brand name.
