Shelby Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Volmer Beardsley and Charles Hubby operated in Shelby in Ohio , the Beardsley & Hubbs Manufacturing Company . In the summer of 1902 they had plans to expand. On November 11, 1902, they founded the new company in the same town. In 1903 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Shelby . The first public presentation was at the New York Automobile Show in January 1903. Bankruptcy followed in the summer of 1903 .

On December 10, 1903, everything was auctioned off to Thomas B. Jeffery. He used the factory equipment he purchased at his Kenosha , Wisconsin facility . There he manufactured Rambler vehicles with his Thomas B. Jeffery Company .

The vehicles had opposed piston engines of the Gobron-Brillié style .

The model no. 3 had a single cylinder engine with 10 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 198 cm . The setup was a runabout . It had two seats and two emergency seats that fold out in the front.

The model no. 5 had a two-cylinder engine with 20 hp. The wheelbase was 231 cm. Depending on the source, it was designed as a tonneau with rear entry or as a five-seater touring car.
