Russell-Springfield was an American automobile brand.

Brand history

Doctor CW Russell of Springfield , Ohio , held a patent on an electric car . Brenning Brothers of Salem , Massachusetts made at least one car based on his patent in 1901.

Then Russell developed another vehicle. At the end of 1902 he introduced it to the market under the brand name Russell-Springfield . Production ended in 1903.

A source does not give a company name. Another source mentions CW Russell Co. Companies with this name can be found in Shrewsbury , Massachusetts and New York City . It is unclear if there was a connection.

The series vehicles had a gasoline engine . It was a water-cooled single cylinder engine with 9 hp . It was mounted under the seat and drove the rear axle via a three-speed gearbox and a chain. The setup was an open runabout with space for two people. The original price was 1,250 US dollars .

One source suggests that the high price was the main reason for the failure.
