Golden State Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Police officer Ross MG Phillips gave up his job in 1902 to develop vehicles. The first vehicle was built in 1904. Phillips patented many parts. Only after the patent had been granted did he found the company in Los Angeles , California for series production in January 1906 . The brand name was Golden State . Production ended that same year after a donor died.

There was no association with the Golden State Automobile Company , which previously used the same brand name.

The only model had an air-cooled engine . It drove the rear axle via a cardan shaft . The structure was an open runabout with two seats. It was steered with a steering wheel that was not yet common at the time .
