Greenleaf Cycle Company was an American manufacturer of vehicles .
Company history
HS Clawson and his son Smith T. Clawson operated Clawson & Son from 1898 . A reorganization in 1900 led to the new company. The seat was in Lansing , Michigan . Mainly they were engaged in the manufacture and repair of bicycles . In 1902 some automobiles were also made . The first two were exhibited at the National Grange Meeting . The brand name was Greenleaf .
After 1906 the track of the company is lost.
Motor vehicles
A two-cylinder engine with 10 hp was mounted lying flat under the front seats. It drove the rear axle via a three-speed gearbox. The chassis had a wheelbase of 198 cm . The open structure in the shape of a Surrey offered space for four people. The curb weight was stated to be 1750 pounds . That corresponds to about 794 kg. The new price was 1750 US dollars , or 1 dollar per pound. According to one source, it was way too high for any major market success. Another source sees a similarity to the Cadillac of the time , which only cost $ 850.
