Boss Knitting Machine Works was an American company.

Company history

James L. Eck founded the company in Reading , Pennsylvania in 1892 . He made knitting machines. He also produced automobiles between 1897 and 1909 . The brand name was Boss . A total of 22 vehicles were built, one of which still exists. It is not known when the company was dissolved.

There was no connection with Long-Crawford Automobile Company , which used the same brand name.

Only steam cars were on offer . The steam engine had two cylinders. In the first models it developed 7 HP , from 1905 8 HP and from 1907 10 HP. The chassis had a wheelbase of 190 cm . Open superstructures were available. The runabout offered space for two people and the Dos-à-dos space for four people, back to back.
