JM Quinby & Co. was an American manufacturer of carriages , car bodies, and automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1874 as the successor to James M. Quinby & Sons . The seat was in Newark , New Jersey . James Milnor Quinby initially directed it. Partners were Isaac S. Ayres and John H. Jephson. They made carriages. 100 people were employed at the time. James Milnor Quinby retired after an illness and died in 1892. William W. Ogden became the new president and his brother Henry became vice president and treasurer.

Some automobiles were made between 1899 and 1900 . The brand name was Quinby .

Shortly afterwards, bodies for automobiles were added. In 1917 the company was dissolved.

Motor vehicles

Electric cars were on offer . They were created according to customer orders. Some parts were from the Riker Electric Motor Company .
