Whipple Cycle Company was an American manufacturer of vehicles .

Company history

The company was based in Chicago , Illinois . Mainly it made bicycles . The first known mention comes from 1898. Under the direction of Ira H. Whipple, the production of motor vehicles began in 1902 . The brand name was Whipple . In 1903 the production of multi-track vehicles ended. Instead, Oldsmobile vehicles were sold.

In October, November and December 1906 as well as in January, February, March, May and June 1907, motorcycles were still offered. Then the track of the company is lost.

Whipple brand bicycles began to appear in 1898 and apparently in the years thereafter.

Motorcycles followed in 1902 . In addition, the self-made bicycles were given gasoline engines . At least one vehicle had skids and was therefore considered a snowmobile and was presented at the Chicago Automobile Show .

Automobiles were only made between 1902 and 1903. They remained prototypes . They were bodied as a runabout .
