Company history

The company was based in Carteret , New Jersey . It originally made railroad handcarts. In 1896 an agreement was reached with Charles E. Duryea with the aim of manufacturing buses and commercial vehicles. However, these plans did not result in production. Automobile production did not begin until 1900, now without Duryea. The brand name was Canda . Production ended in the summer of 1902 when the company was dissolved.

vehicles

The first model from 1900 was called the Auto-Quadricycle . It was a motorcycle-like quadricycle in the European sense. A single-cylinder engine with 1.75 hp was mounted in the rear and drove the rear axle. The driver sat in the back on a motorcycle saddle , the passenger in the front between the front wheels. The wheelbase was 117 cm.

This model was also in the range from 1901 to 1902. More engine power was available at an additional cost. Versions as delivery van and tricycle called tricycle were added.

There was also a more modern series from 1901 to 1902. The vehicles were powered by two individual single-cylinder engines, each with an output of 2.5 hp. An execution was 127 cm wheelbase and an open body as Spider - Runabout . The bench with space for two people was roughly in the middle of the vehicle. Was steered with a steering lever. A slightly longer wheelbase of 137 cm enabled it to be built as a Stanhope .
