Woodruff Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
The brothers Albert M. and George E. Woodruff were employed by the Akron Motor Carriage Company around 1900 . This company made some prototypes of automobiles, but had to give up in July 1901.
The brothers then founded the new company in 1902. Funders came from Akron and Cleveland , both in Ohio . The company headquarters and factory were in Akron. There was a sales office in Cleveland. In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Woodruff . In March 1903, George Woodruff, who was the driving force behind the company, died. Production ended in 1904. Twenty-four vehicles have survived for 1903 and six for 1904.
Woodruff founded the Akron Two-Cycle Automobile Company in 1905 .

From 1902 to 1903 there were only small vehicles. They had a single cylinder engine in the rear. One version had a 4.5 hp engine , a runabout structure and a steering lever. The original price was 775 US dollars . Both in the Stanhope and in the Dos-à-dos -Stanhope the engine developed 6 HP. Was steered with a steering wheel . There is also a light delivery van called Light Delivery Stanhope .
In 1904 a larger vehicle appeared. It had a three-cylinder engine with 30 hp. It was mounted in the front of the vehicle and drove the rear axle via a chain. The chassis had a wheelbase of 244 cm . Depending on the source, the structure was a touring car or a tonneau . The maximum speed indicated was 72 km / h.
