American Motor Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles based in New York state .

Company history

The company was founded in 1895 as an engine manufacturer. The seat was in New York City . Development began in 1896 and production of automobiles around 1897. In the spring of 1898 it was announced that over 100 vehicles had already been built. The brand name was American . Vehicle production ended in 1898. Engines were still being made until around 1902.

There was no connection to the American Motor Company of the same name from Massachusetts .

Products

The first engines were similar to the single cylinder engines from De Dion-Bouton .

In 1898 the production of 100 motor tricycles and three quadricycles was announced. The amount actually produced was lower.

From 1899 to 1902 the engines were made for the Automobile Company of America , which first called their vehicles American Voiturette and later called gas vehicles .
