Owen Motor Carriage Company , previously Phoenix Motor Vehicle & Engine Company , was an American manufacturer of motor vehicles .
Company history
Brothers Ralph R. and Raymond M. Owen operated RM Owen Carpet Cleaning and Rug Manufacturing Company in Cleveland , Ohio . From 1899 onwards, they manufactured some passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The brand name was Owen . It was only in February 1900 that they founded the Phoenix Motor Vehicle & Engine Company for this purpose . Now some of the vehicles have been marketed as Phoenix . Already in the summer of 1900 the name was changed to Owen Motor Carriage Company . Production ended in 1901.
Other American manufacturers of passenger cars that included the Owen name in the brand name were Owen Motor Car Company , Owen Magnetic Motor Car Corporation, and Owen Thomas Motor Car Company .

At least the first vehicles had a gasoline engine with an output of 8 hp .
Some vehicles were purely passenger cars, others were delivery vans . Most, however, were suitable for both purposes. The rear seats could easily be fitted and removed again.
