Ward Leonard Electric Company is an American company and a former manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
Harry Ward Leonard founded the company in Bronxville , New York , in 1892 . He was active in the field of electrical engineering. In addition, he started producing automobiles in February 1901. The brand name was initially Century Tourist , from July 1901 Knickerbocker and 1903 Ward Leonard . Vehicle production ended in 1903. In 1915 the company moved to Mount Vernon , New York.
The company continues to exist and is now based in Thomaston , Connecticut .

Century Tourist brand name
The only model was a small car. A single-cylinder engine from De Dion-Bouton with 3.5 hp propelled the vehicles. The open runabout had two seats and a jump seat . Cardan drive and steering wheel were advanced details when many competitors still had chain drives and steering levers.
Brand name Knickerbocker
The aforementioned vehicle was called the Knickerbocker Model 1 from July 1901 and remained on sale until 1902. The more powerful Model 2 appeared between February and July 1901 and was also manufactured until 1902. It also had a single-cylinder De Dion-Bouton engine, but with 5 horsepower. Runabout and tonneau were available as superstructures .
In 1903 the range consisted of three models. The Model 1 had a single cylinder engine with 10 hp and was available as a runabout. The Model 2 , on the other hand, had a two-cylinder engine with 15 hp. Runabout and tonneau have been handed down. Both engines continued to come from De Dion-Bouton. The Model 3 expanded the range upwards. It had a four-cylinder engine from Société Buchet that made 24 hp. These vehicles were bodied as a tonneau.

The only model had a four-cylinder engine with 30 hp. The water cooler was mounted on the side of the engine. Are Narrated Roadster and Tonneau.
