Fey was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Lincoln H. Fey of Northfield , Minnesota was allergic to horses , so he looked for an alternative to horse - drawn carriage . In 1896 he began developing an engine. Between 1897 and 1904 he manufactured some passenger cars, which he also sold. They were called Fey . His brother Frank E. Fey was his partner. There was a connection to the Fox and Ferris Machine Shop .

In 1896, Fey manufactured a steam engine . He sold it for $ 25 .

The first vehicle was built in 1897. It was a tricycle with a single rear wheel. A gasoline engine provided the drive. The buyer was Alfred J. Smith from New Prague . The price was $ 65.

A four-wheeled vehicle followed in 1898. It found a local buyer for $ 170.

One vehicle was manufactured over the next six years for which no further data is available. An illustration shows a touring car from 1901. The front bonnet , steering wheel on an inclined steering column and fenders can be seen.

The last vehicle was built in 1904. A self-made four-cylinder engine powered it. It was air-cooled .
