Brand history

The German-born John Albert Meyer began developing an automobile in San Francisco , California in 1893 . In 1896 it was finished. Two more followed, which were also sold. The brand name was Pioneer . Meyer worked for the JL Hicks Gas Engine Company from 1894 . It is possible that he made the vehicles there. Production ended in 1899. A total of three vehicles were built.

There were other American passenger cars of the Pioneer brand: Pioneer Car Company (1907-1912), Pioneer (1914) and Pioneer (1959).

vehicles

The first vehicle had a single cylinder engine . The open runabout offered space for two people. Meyer used the vehicle both in the San Francisco Bay Area and in the parade marking the United States' Independence Day on July 4, 1897. The vehicle has been preserved.

One vehicle was bought by Santa Rosa doctor JW Jesse who used it to drive around Sonoma County .

George Colgate, the editor of the Orland Register , bought the other vehicle.
