Standard Motor Vehicle Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles from California .

Company history

Henry C. Barrow, AE Brooke-Ridley, Henry A. Brown, Solomon D. Rogers and Wilson H. Sigourney founded the company in early 1901. The seat was in Oakland . Brown was a design engineer and had the post of superintendent. The Berkeley Gazette reported on the company as early as February 1901. In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Standard . Production ended in 1902.

Many of the vehicles were conversions from carriages to motor vehicles. This wasn't uncommon at the turn of the century. Various engines were available for this purpose. A particularly small engine weighed 41 kg and a particularly heavy engine 680 kg. Narrated are passenger cars and commercial vehicles .
