Richmond & Holmes Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Richmond brothers founded the company in St. Johns , Michigan in 1895 as a mechanical workshop. They made stationary engines from 1896 . In 1900 a Mr. Holmes took over half of the company. It is said that he wanted to secure jobs for his sons. In 1902 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Ideal . Plans initially amounted to ten vehicles. Production ended in 1904. A total of two or three vehicles were built. One of them was bought by a photographer from St. Johns.

There were several US manufacturers of Ideal branded passenger vehicles : Ideal Automobile Manufacturing Company , Richmond & Holmes Company, B. & P. ​​Company , Ideal Motor Vehicle Company , Ideal Runabout Manufacturing Company , Bethlehem Automobile Company , Ideal Electric Vehicle Company , Ideal Shop and Bethlehem Motor Truck Company .
