The Jennis Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Peer Jenness founded the company in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania in 1903 . He started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Jennis . The cars were intended to compete against vehicles from Locomobile , Peerless and Pope-Hartford . Production ended in 1905 after the financier died. A total of between two and six vehicles were built, one of which still exists.

One source states that the reason why the names of the company and the owner differ is unknown.

The vehicles were powered by a large four-cylinder engine with an output of 48 hp . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a three-speed gearbox and two chains. The structure was a touring car with five seats. JM Quinby & Co. made the bodies.
