The Greyhound Cyclecar Company was an American automobile manufacturer based in Toledo, Ohio and Kalamazoo, Michigan . Owners were WD Smith from Toledo, FC Bonine from Kalamazoo and James H. Johnson , also from Kalamazoo.

description

In 1914 the factory in Toledo offered a vehicle under the name Greyhound , which was to be built at least 2,400 times. However, not nearly as many orders were received. The first model is called a cycle car, but it did not meet the cubic capacity criteria. The two-cylinder engine had 88.9 mm bore , 93.218 mm stroke and 1157 cm³ displacement .

In 1915 the company headquarters and production were relocated to Kalamazoo.

This attempt does not seem to have been successful either, because in March 1915 the company was renamed the States Motor Car Company ; however, the product was still called Greyhound. However, this car was no longer a cycle car, but a light vehicle. In 1916, the plant was taken over by other business people and renamed States Motor Car Manufacturing Company . Automobiles under the name States were made there until 1918.

The Greyhound cycle car had a water-cooled four - cylinder in - line engine with 1287 cm³ displacement and 14/18 hp (13.2 kW), the power of which was passed on to the rear wheels via a cone clutch, a spur gear and a cardan shaft. The car was already equipped with an electric starter. The tandem roadster had a wheelbase of 2642 mm and a track width of 1016 mm. Its price was US $ 385.

The Greyhound light vehicle was available as a two-seat roadster or five-seat touring car. Its four-cylinder engine developed 30 bhp (22 kW) and the wheelbase was 2692 mm.
