Service Motors Inc. , previously the Service Motor Car Company , was an American manufacturer of motor vehicles .

Company history

The Service Motor Car Company was founded in 1911. The headquarters were initially in Chicago and the plant in Kankakee , both in Illinois . In the same year the production of commercial vehicles and passenger cars began . The brand name was Service . Car production was stopped again in 1911.

In 1912 the company moved to Wabash , Indiana . In 1923, according to a source, the name was changed to Service Motors Inc.

Relay Motors Corporation took over the company in 1926 and continued production at its Lima , Ohio facility until 1932, keeping the brand name.

The car had a four-cylinder engine . It drove the rear axle via a friction gear and two chains. The chassis had a wheelbase of 249 cm. The setup was a runabout with two seats.

Most of the early trucks were delivered to the United States Army . They were the Liberty Truck type . They were given as 1 to 5 tons. They had Buda four-cylinder engines .
