Argo Motor Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Benjamin Briscoe founded the company in New York City in March 1914 . In September he moved to Jackson , Michigan . He started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Argo . In September 1916, the Hackett Motor Car Company took over the company. A few vehicles were still produced up to January 1918.

The first model from 1914 largely corresponded to the French Ajax from Briscoe Frères . It was also called Vique . A water-cooled four - cylinder engine with L-head and 12 hp was mounted in the front of the vehicle. It drove the rear axle via a cardan shaft . First, the motor 58.7375 mm had bore , 100.0125 mm stroke , 1084 cc engine capacity and thus held the displacement limit for cyclecars one. In 1915 the stroke was increased to 101.6 mm, which resulted in a displacement of 1101 cm³. A display shows a bore of 60.325 mm and a stroke of 101.6 mm, resulting in a displacement of 1162 cm³. The curb weight was given as 340 kg. The wheelbase was 229 cm and the track 112 cm. The open body of the roadster offered space for two people.

When the cycle car boom was over, the company made a bigger and stronger model. The Four was in the range from 1916 to 1918. Its four-cylinder engine developed 22 hp. The wheelbase was 244 cm. There was a choice of two-seater roadster and five-seater touring car .
