Standard Engineering Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Harry Hammill, Otto G. Knecht and Ernest Saunders headed the company, which was based in Chicago , Illinois . In January 1914 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Standard . Production ended in the same year.

There were two models on offer, one after the other, which differed only in terms of the engine and the price. Although they were as cyclecars referred, however, exceeded the allowed limit their engines of 1100 cc displacement . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a friction gear and a single chain. The chassis had a wheelbase of 254 cm and a track width of only 91 cm .
