Yellow Cab Manufacturing Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

John Daniel Hertz founded the company in 1915, based in Chicago , Illinois . In 1921 the Walden W. Shaw Livery Company was taken over from the same town. This started the production of automobiles. The brand name was Ambassador until 1925 and Hertz from 1924 to 1927 , also Yellow from 1915 to 1929 and General Motors Cab from 1930 to 1938 . General Motors took over the company in 1925 . In 1928 the headquarters were relocated to Pontiac , Michigan .

Brand name Ambassador

The Model R appeared in 1921 and was in the range until 1923. The vehicles were powered by a six-cylinder engine from Continental with an output of 75 hp . The wheelbase was 345 cm. There was a choice of a two-seater roadster , a sporty touring car with four seats, another touring car with seven seats and two different seven-seat sedans . Many vehicles were used as taxis .

The smaller model D-1 followed in 1924 . The wheelbase was only 290 cm. The six-cylinder engine developed 25 hp. Sedans and touring cars were available. The vehicle was intended as a rental car

Brand name Hertz

The only model corresponded to the last Ambassador. Of these, 51 vehicles were built in 1924, 1672 vehicles in the following year, 2303 vehicles in the following year and 35 in the last year of production.

Brand name Yellow

These were taxis too. From 1929 the engines came from Buick .

Brand name General Motors Cab

From 1936 onwards, the taxis were fitted with Chevrolet engines .
