YF Stewart Motor Manufacturing Company , previously Coats Steamers Inc. and Coats Steam Car Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
George A. Coats designed a steam car in early 1921 . The market launch was announced for March 1921. The production of automobiles began. The brand name was Coats . It was not until September 1921 that Coats founded Coats Steamers Inc. in Columbus , Ohio . A little later the name was changed to Coats Steam Car Company . In 1922 the company moved to Bowling Green , also in Ohio. There it came to the merger with the Stewart Motor Car Company to the YF Stewart Motor Manufacturing Company . The vehicles were now occasionally referred to as Coats-Stewart , Stewart-Coats and Clermont Steamer . Production ended in 1923. A total of around twelve vehicles were built.
