Mercury Cars Inc. was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was in 1917 in Hollis in the New York district of Queens founded. In 1918 the production of automobiles began. The market launch took place in January 1918 on the occasion of a presentation in the Hotel Astor . The brand name was Mercury . Production ended in 1920. In total, only a few vehicles were built.

The Serrifile Motor Company later used the same plant.

There was no connection to the other US car brands of the same name: Mercury Machine Company , Mercury Cyclecar and Mercury from the Ford concern.

There was only one basic model on offer. It had a four cylinder engine from the Weidely Motors Company . It had a displacement of 243 cubic inches . That corresponds to 3982 cm³. The chassis had a wheelbase of 290 cm . New prices ranged from $ 2,750 to $ 2959 for open vehicles and $ 3,600 to $ 3900 for closed vehicles. One illustration shows a touring car . What was unusual was that two small flaps in the vehicle floor gave access to the braking mechanism and the battery .
