Sheridan Motor Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

DA Burke was a manager at Buick , a division of General Motors . He had designed two vehicles in early 1920. William Durant as President of General Motors was pleased with that. He then founded the company based in Muncie , Indiana . There the plant of the dissolved Inter-State Automobile Company was moved. In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Sheridan .

A little later, Durant had to leave General Motors. In the summer of 1921, General Motors sold both the company and the factory to Durant. Production ended on August 1, 1921. Durant then used the factory for its Durant Motors .

A total of around 800 vehicles were built, two of which still exist.

The engines came from Northway Motor and Manufacturing Company , which was also part of General Motors.

The only production model was the 35 HP . Its four-cylinder engine developed 35 hp . A source gives 93.7 mm bore and 133.4 mm stroke , which resulted in 3679 cc displacement . The chassis had a 295 cm wheelbase . There was a choice of roadsters , touring cars , coupes and sedans . The vehicle was intended to fill the gap between Chevrolet and Oakland in the General Motors range .

In addition, a model with an eight-cylinder engine was planned, which was to be classified below Cadillac . The engine was specified with 80 hp. It was a V8 engine with 88.9 mm bore, 114.3 mm stroke and 5676 cm³ displacement. The wheelbase was 335 cm. Only prototypes were made of this .
