Seneca Motorcar Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1917 as the successor company to the Fostoria Light Car Company in Fostoria , Ohio . Ira Cadwallader became president, his son Lester plant manager. In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Seneca . The production numbers developed properly and were over 1000 pieces in the best years. About half of the vehicles were exported.

Increased competition led to production being stopped in 1924. Parts were made for a few years after that.

All vehicles had bought four-cylinder engines . They came from the LeRoi Company until 1921 and then from Lycoming . All superstructures were open. They were touring cars and roadsters , for which, with one exception, five seats or two seats were specified.

From 1917 to 1918 there was the 27 HP . The engine developed 27 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 274 cm . The original price was 735 US dollars .

In 1919 the only change was a price increase to $ 990.

1920 from the Model L . The dates didn't change. The price was increased to $ 1,185.

In 1921 it was renamed the Model R-21 . Otherwise there were no changes.

The Model 50 followed in 1922 . The wheelbase had been lengthened to 284 cm and the price lowered to $ 945.

In 1923 its output was given as 40 hp. The roadster was now $ 935 and the touring car was $ 985. The model L 2 was new . Its engine developed 35 hp. The wheelbase was 274 cm. It was also available as a touring car and roadster, but the number of seats has not been recorded.

In 1924 the range was again limited to the Model 50 . Prices were reduced to $ 875.
