Holmes Motor Vehicle Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Charles Holmes ran the Charles Holmes Machine Company in Cambridgeport , Massachusetts in 1906 . He made automobiles that were marketed as Holmes .

Later in 1906 he continued production with the independent Holmes Motor Vehicle Company . Bankruptcy followed in the summer of 1907 . The amount outstanding totaled 571 dollars , less than the purchase price of a vehicle. The main creditor was the Charles Holmes Machine Company .

There were no affiliations with the other US manufacturers of Holmes automobiles: Holmes , Danville Foundry and Machine Company, and Holmes Automobile Company .

The Model D had a water-cooled two - cylinder engine with 20 hp . A 127 mm bore and 127 mm stroke resulted in a displacement of 3217 cc . The chassis had a wheelbase of 203 cm . The structure was an open runabout with two seats.

Model E , Model G and Model H had a four-cylinder engine with 101.6 mm bore, 101.6 mm stroke, 3295 cm³ displacement and 22 hp. The engines of the first and last mentioned vehicles were air-cooled . The Model E had the short wheelbase of 203 cm. For the other two models, it was 254 cm. All bodies were touring cars with five seats.
