Franco-American Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded on April 17, 1907 in Los Angeles , California . Charles Cassat Davis was President, Frank M. Bell General Manager, and Andrew M. Boulanger Superintendent. John W. Beasley, Edgar M. Hitchcock, and H. Norris Lynch were also employed by the company. They started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Franco-American . Production ended in the same year. It is not known how many vehicles were made.

Andrew M. Boulanger and Felix Merlo then assembled a few vehicles from existing parts in a plant in a northern district of Los Angeles.

There was no association with the Franco-American Automobile Company , which used the same brand name in 1902.

The model was advertised as the French Type . It is said to have had brakes on both the front and rear wheels . There is no evidence of this. If it were true, it would be the first U.S. motor vehicle with four-wheel brakes. The engine came from France. The cylinder or cylinders were made of steel .
