Regas Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Frederick Sager had been running the Regas Vehicle Company in Rochester , New York, from around 1900 . He had made frames for bicycles and some motorcycles .

In the summer of 1903 he dissolved the first company and founded the Regas Automobile Company in the same city . He started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Regas , backwards for Sager. In January 1904 he presented five vehicles at the National Automobile Show in New York City . Financial problems arose.

In the summer of 1904, DD Dunn took over the company. He hired William H. Birdsall as a designer. Production ended in 1905. In 1906 the company was dissolved.

The first model from 1903 had a single cylinder engine with 7 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 183 cm . The setup was a runabout . The original price was 750 US dollars .

In 1904 a model appeared with a V2 engine producing 12 hp. The wheelbase was 206 cm. Runabouts and touring cars have survived and cost $ 1,500. There was also a car with a V4 engine and 20 hp. Its wheelbase was 218 cm. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a cardan shaft .

Birdsall designed for the model year a larger model 1905th It had a four-cylinder engine, a three-speed gearbox and a chassis with a 254 cm wheelbase.
