Cowles-MacDowell Pneumobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles . Some sources use the spelling Cowles-McDowell Pneumobile Company . According to a source, the last name was Pneumobile Motor Car Company .

Company history

Irving Cowles and EH MacDowell founded the company in Chicago , Illinois in 1914 . They started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Pneumobile . Plans for a plant in Anderson , Indiana were not implemented. Production ended in 1915. In total, only a few vehicles were built.

Only the 6-30 model was on offer . The special feature was the air suspension . Air-filled cylinders were mounted on each wheel.

The six-cylinder engine came from Buda Engine Co. It had 88.9 mm bore , 130.175 mm stroke and 4848 cm³ displacement . This resulted in 29 hp. The actual engine output, however, was 58 hp . The transmission had four gears. The chassis had a wheelbase of 335 cm . There was a choice of four- and six-seat touring cars and a two-seat roadster .
