Welch Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in Detroit , Michigan in 1909 . There was a connection to the Welch Motor Car Company from Pontiac . In 1910 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Welch-Detroit . The designer was ABC Hardy, who previously worked for the Flint Automobile Company .

In the summer of 1909 there was a connection with General Motors . The takeover took place in 1910.

Production ended in 1911. General Motors moved the factory equipment to the former Rainier Motor Car Company plant in Saginaw and launched Marquette as the successor brand in 1912 .

Only the Model S was on offer . It had a four-cylinder engine . In the first year it was specified with 40 hp and then with 45/50 hp. The chassis had a wheelbase of 310 cm . In the first year there were only open touring cars with seven seats. In 1911, a limousine and a landaulet , also with seven seats, added to the range of bodies.
