Extraction and presentation
Sodium germanate can be obtained by reacting germanium with sodium hydroxide or by reacting sodium carbonate with germanium dioxide at 1200 ° C.

Sodium germanate is a white solid that is soluble in water. The heptahydrate begins to lose its crystal water at 83 ° C. It has an orthorhombic crystal structure with the space group Cmc 2 1 (space group no. 36) isotype to sodium metasilicate .
