Ross Automobile Company was an American automobile manufacturer .

Company history

John L. Ross operated the Ross & Young Machine Company for parts manufacturing. In January 1915, he announced that he would start producing automobiles. To this end, he founded the separate company in Detroit , Michigan , in the summer of 1915 . In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Ross .

In late 1916 financial problems began. New donors created further problems. In February 1918 the plant was sold to the Shipman Iron & Metal Company . All the creditors could be paid with the proceeds . Production ended that year.

The first model in 1915 had a V8 engine of Herschell-Spillman . The chassis had a 292 cm wheelbase . The only known structure was an open touring car . It cost 1,350 dollars .

In 1916 the wheelbase was extended to 330 cm. Other bodies were now also available. The original price was $ 1,850.

Touring cars, coupés , sedans , roadsters , suburban and town cars have come down to us for 1917 . No information is available on the engine. In August 1917 it was announced that the V8 engine would be replaced by a six-cylinder engine from the Continental Motors Company . In November 1917 this announcement was revoked.
