States Motor Car Manufacturing Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1916 in Kalamazoo , Michigan . The Indianapolis News gives the exact date February 13, 1916. Initially, John A. Pyl was President and BR Barber and James H. Johnson were Vice Presidents. The factory of the dissolved Greyhound Cyclecar Company was acquired. In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was States . The designer was EJ Cook. In 1917 GB Pulfer became President and VG Denmon became Vice President. Production ended in 1918. On January 23, 1919, the company was reported to have been dissolved.

There was no association with the States Cyclecar Company , which previously used the same brand name.

At first there was only the Model 4-32 . It had a four-cylinder engine with 32 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 284 cm . The only body shape offered was an open touring car with five seats.

In 1918 the model 6-37 added to the range. It had a six-cylinder engine and 37 hp. The chassis corresponded to that of the weaker model. In addition to the touring car, a two-seater roadster was also available.
