Amplex Manufacturing Company , previously Simplex Motor Car Company and Amplex Motor Car Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
E. J. Gulick and Harry L. Bell founded the Simplex Motor Car Company in Mishawaka , Indiana , in late 1904 . In September 1905 the first prototype was ready to drive. Series production began in early 1906. The brand name was American Simplex . In 1910 the brand name changed to Amplex . The reason given was the possibility of confusion with the Simplex from the Simplex Automobile Company . In 1912 the name was changed to Amplex Motor Car Company and in 1914 to Amplex Manufacturing Company . Vehicle production ended in 1913. Now only engines were made.
The company was taken over by William Wrigley Jr. in 1914 and by William Gillette von Gillette in 1916 . In 1917 the company was dissolved.

Most of the models had two-stroke engines . Advertisements claimed that such engines had advantages because four-stroke engines had problems with valves .
From 1906 to 1907 it the Model A . Its two-cylinder engine developed 40 hp . The wheelbase was 269 cm. The open touring car offered space for five people.
In 1908 the model 30-50 was in the range. Like most of the following models, it had a four-cylinder engine . He made from 6800 cm³ displacement with 50 HP. The chassis had a 297 cm wheelbase. Narrated are Landaulet , sedan , Roadster , Touring Car and a close-coupled touring cars .
The following year there was the model D-50 . The engine and wheelbase remained unchanged. In addition to a five- and a seven-seat touring car, there were sedans and roadsters.
In 1910 it was renamed the Model 35 , while the engine and wheelbase remained the same. A seven-seat touring car, a roadster, a limousine, a landaulet and a five-seat close-coupled touring car were on offer . In addition, the brand name changed during 1910
In 1911, the wheelbase of the Model H was extended to 325 cm. The superstructures touring car with seven seats, toy tonneau , close-coupled touring car, roadster, limousine and landaulet were on offer.
In 1912 there were two different types for the first time. The Model K corresponded to the previous model H . The Model M was only 305 cm wheelbase. Its engine was specified with 30/40 hp. Both types were available as landaulets, sedans, roadsters and touring cars.
In 1913 the range consisted of two models. The Baby Amplex was the last model to have a four-cylinder engine with 40 hp and a 305 cm wheelbase. The Little Six had a six - cylinder four-stroke engine with 40 hp. The wheelbase was 325 cm. Both models were only available as touring cars. Plans for a vehicle with a valveless slide motor were no longer realized.
