American Automobile and Power Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Eight people from Sanford and Boston started the company in Sanford, Maine on December 9, 1903 . Ernest M. Goodall was the President, Henry D. Long the Treasurer, and Edward O. Mosher the Designer. In 1904 the production of automobiles began, initially in a small workshop in Lawrence , Massachusetts . The brand name was American Populaire . In March 1904, the first vehicle was presented at the Boston Automobile Show . Series production took place at a plant in Sanford and ended in April 1905 when the plant was sold.

Only one model was on offer. Its engine had unusual valve timing . One source gives a two-cylinder engine with 12  hp , another a four-cylinder engine . The wheelbase was 213 cm. The Tonneau body shape offered space for four people. Instead of a rear door or two side doors, access to the rear was via a folding front seat. In addition, a are runabout and a Cape Cod - touring car survived.
