Roper was an American manufacturer of vehicles .

Company history

Sylvester H. Roper lived in Roxbury , Massachusetts . He started experimenting with steam engines and steam engines in 1859 . Scientific American first reported a Roper motor vehicle in 1863 . The brand name was Roper . Other vehicles followed, some of which were also sold. There were both passenger cars and motorcycles . Roper died in 1896. Production ended with that. A total of ten vehicles were built.

The last four-wheeled vehicle was sold to a Boston entrepreneur in 1894 . Many of the remaining vehicles were motorcycles.

One car has been preserved. It is on display in the Henry Ford Museum . The year of construction is given as 1865. It has an engine with two cylinders . The bore is 95.25 mm and the stroke is 254 mm. The chassis has a 138 cm wheelbase . The vehicle is 254 cm long, 160 cm wide and 147 cm high. The curb weight was about 313 kg.
