Hoffman Automobile & Manufacturing Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Louis E. Hoffman ran the Hoffman Bicycle Company in Cleveland , Ohio . From 1900 he experimented with a steam car . In 1901 several series models followed. The brand name was Hoffman . It was not until January 1902 that he founded the separate company for automobile production in the same city. In January 1903, vehicles with gasoline engines were added. Around 100 vehicles were built that year.

In the same year Hoffman named Edward D. Shurmer president. In late 1903, Hoffman left the company and moved to Reliance Motor Truck Company . At the beginning of 1904 the steam wagons were given up.

In 1904 there was a reorganization that led to the Royal Motor Car Company .

The petrol car had a single cylinder engine with 7.5 hp. The chassis had a wheelbase of 183 cm . The vehicles were bodied as open touring cars .

One vehicle still exists.
