Marion Motor Car Company

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Marion Motor Car Company was an American automobile manufacturer that operated in the early years of the 20th century.

Company history

The company was founded in Indianapolis in January 1904 . The starting capital was US $ 100,000. Over the years there were various people on the management board who later became known as automobile pioneers or who founded their own automobile factories, such as Robert Hassler ( Hassler Motor Company ), Fred I. Tone , Harry C. Stutz ( Stutz Motor Car Company ) and John N. Willys ( Willys-Overland ). Initially the company used air-cooled four-cylinder engines of Reeves , and later water-cooled engines.

The future designer of the Duesenberg automobiles, Fred S. Duesenberg , was a partner in a company in Des Moines (Iowa) around 1905 that represented the brands Marion , Rambler and Gale , among others . He also took part in car races with a Marion with an air-cooled four-cylinder engine.

The company always suffered from insufficient capital resources, which was therefore increased to US $ 1,125,000 in June 1912. At the same time, JI Handley became president of the company. Apparently, it didn't improve business.

Production ended in 1915. Handley took over the company in 1916 and merged it with the also acquired automobile manufacturer Imperial in Jackson (Michigan) to form the Mutual Motors Company . This company succeeded Marion and produced the Marion-Handley .
