Company history

Charles B. Hatfield Senior and his son Charles B. Hatfield Junior founded the company in late 1906. The seat was initially in Cortland in the US state of New York . In the spring of 1907 they moved to Miamisburg , Ohio . There the production of automobiles began in cooperation with the Kauffman Motor Car Company . The brand name was Hatfield .

In spring 1908 the bankruptcy followed . It came to a merger with Kauffman. Successor company was the Advance Motor Vehicle Company .

The association with the Cortland Cart & Carriage Company of the same brand name is unclear.

vehicles

Highwheelers were on offer . The front wheels were 38 inches tall and the rear 40 inches. They were solid rubber tires . The vehicles had an air-cooled two - cylinder four-stroke engine . It was mounted under the seat and drove the rear axle via a friction gear and two chains. One illustration shows a steering wheel on a vertical steering column.

In 1907 there were two models. The Model B had an engine with 104.775 mm bore , 101.6 mm stroke , 1752 cc displacement and 12 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 188 cm . The Model C engine had 114.3 mm bore, the same stroke, 2085 cc and 14 hp. The wheelbase was 257 cm. The open structure with space for four people was called Buggyabout , which is also interpreted as the model name.

In 1908 the stronger and larger model was discontinued. Model B is mentioned in one source , Model D and Model E in another source . A reduction of the bore to 101.6 mm resulted in a displacement of 1647 cm³. The engine developed 12 hp. The wheelbase was extended to 198 cm. The structure was now two-seater.
